As the ???Deep Throat??? story has unfolded, it has been amusing (if you can call it that) to watch the wingnuts at FOX Noise Channel and other wingnut outlets vilify Mark Felt. Granted I can’t stomach much wingnut media anymore, but the discourse has been so outrageous that notable quotes have spilled out into the MRM (More Realistic Media) like sh!t from a toppled port-a-potty.
Josh Marshall noted Peggy Noonan’s connection of Mark Felt to the rise of Pol Pot’s genocide in Vietnam.
Is it terrible when an American president lies and surrounds himself by dirty tricksters? Yes, it is. How about the butchering of children in the South China Sea. Is that worse? Yes. Infinitely, unforgettably and forever.
Just a small taste of the shameful discourse wrought by Nixon apologists in the wake of Deep Throat’s identification. Mark Felt, knowing that the Watergate break-in had roots in the oval office, did what any honorable human being should do–he exposed the truth to the American public. Do you honestly think that the truth would have come out had Mark Felt not gone to Woodward and Bernstein? How does Watergate compare to the actions of the current administration with regard to pre-war use of intelligence on Iraq?
