This is a story written by a Canadian journalist who was held captive in Iraq for a week earlier this month. It is long, but captivating and gives you a great deal of insight as to the situation on the ground and the mindset of Iraqi insurgents.
The story is here
Of note:
The fact that the terrorists are getting help from members of the Iraqi Police. That???s right, the Iraqis hired by the U.S.-backed Allawi government to protect Iraq from the insurgency are aiding the insurgency.
The insurgents seem to know when a particular area is going to
be attacked by U.S. forces. While there are many possibilities for how they know (increased troop pressence in the area, etc.), it seems alittle dubious that they can easily escape the targeted areas even after they are considered ???secured??? by the U.S. Military. It seems to indicate the insurgents are being tipped off by someone and then helped out.
This once again counters the consistent rosy picture Bush and Allawi paint of situation in Iraq.
